Chilled Byron Bay Wedding

Holly and Steve opted for a super chilled and cruisy wedding in the chilled heartland of Australia, Byron Bay. I know I say this a lot, but FAR OUT this was a great wedding! For my very first time at Fig tree I was buzzing all day. There seemed like an endless amount of awesome stuff and great moments to photograph. Holly and Steve are both so effortlessly cool and relaxed people, so I had a pretty good feeling it was going to be a cracker when they asked me to shoot it.

We Have History

Way back before my photography career took off I worked at an ad agency with Holly and Steve. They weren’t together when they joined the company, but love soon blossomed, most likely with the assistance of alcohol at the infamous establishment across the road from the office. No online dating apps required, just an old school office romance. Fast forward a few years and I received an email from Holly to say they were getting married in Byron Bay and they wanted me to shoot it – awesome!

Reccy the day before

The day before the wedding I met up with Holly and Steve so we could do a reccy of some photo locations. They didn’t want the usual spots so together we found some awesome back streets that had the perfect jungle/palm vibes. They also wanted something with a view. I suggested a spot that I knew of, but it involved climbing a fence. Asking if they’d be up for it, Holly’s response was “fuck yes”.

Ben Carlyle Celebrant

This was the 2nd time I’ve had the honour of shooting one of Ben’s ceremonies (here’s the other one). This bloke knows how to start the celebration with a bang and it really sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you’re having a wedding in The Byron Bay region and want a chilled yet super professional celebrant, then Ben is you guy.

Fig tree Fire

Sadly, this beautiful old venue burned to the ground in December 2019. They are however currently rebuilding the restaurant so they will be back, bigger and better than ever.

Hot Pies

After the wedding Holly and Steve decided they wanted a change and opened up a pie shot in Cronulla called The Pie Shack. I have sampled these delicious treats and I can confirm they are pretty special. Pie lovers, pop in and say G’day.
